Method
Rim the glasses
- Dip the rim of each glass into caramel sauce, then dip into cinnamon sugar to coat. Refrigerate the glasses about 10 minutes or until the rim is set and no longer tacky, with a glossy caramel coating visible.
Make the caramel apple punch base
- Whisk caramel sauce, brown sugar, and cinnamon into the apple cider until the sugar dissolves. Stir until the mixture looks smooth and evenly tinted with no visible brown sugar grains.
- If making a spiked version, add caramel vodka or butterscotch schnapps and whisk briefly to combine. The mixture should look uniform with no streaks.
- Refrigerate the punch base for 30 minutes to chill. It should be cold throughout when you pour it.
Serve
- Just before serving, add ginger ale (or sparkling water) to the chilled punch base. Stir gently so it stays fizzy, and the surface should show light bubbles.
- Fill glasses with ice before pouring in the punch. The drink should sit over ice with a clear caramel-apple color visible through the glass.
- Garnish each glass with thin apple slices and a cinnamon stick. The apple slices should float at the top and the cinnamon stick should be visible above the rim.
Notes
For a tighter caramel-apple flavor, chill the punch base until very cold so the ginger ale goes in without losing carbonation fast; keep it refrigerated after mixing (up to 2 days) but add ginger ale and ice only right before serving. Freezing isn’t recommended because carbonation will be lost on thawing. Dietary swap: use non-alcoholic caramel syrup or omit the alcohol entirely for a kid-friendly version while keeping the same caramel-cinnamon taste.
