Ingredients

Ground beef
  • 1.5 lb ground beef (80/20)
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 0.25 Salt and pepper to taste
Bowl base and toppings
  • 4 cup romaine lettuce, chopped
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1 avocado, sliced
  • 0.5 cup red onion, diced
  • 0.5 cup Dill pickle slices
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar
Burger sauce
  • 0.33 cup mayo
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp mustard
  • 1 tbsp relish

Equipment

  • 1 cast iron skillet

Method

Make the burger sauce
  1. Stir together mayo, ketchup, mustard, and relish until smooth, then refrigerate for about 5 minutes so it thickens slightly.
Cook the seasoned beef
  1. In a cast iron skillet, combine ground beef with Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  2. Cook over medium-high heat, breaking the beef into small chunks, until cooked through and browned with crispy edges, about 8–10 minutes.
Assemble the burger bowls
  1. Add romaine lettuce to 4 bowls as the base.
  2. Top each bowl with the cooked seasoned beef crumbles.
  3. Layer cherry tomatoes, diced red onion, avocado slices, and dill pickle slices over the beef.
  4. Sprinkle shredded cheddar on top, then drizzle burger sauce generously and serve immediately.

Notes

For best crunch, prep the lettuce and toppings while the beef cooks, then assemble right before serving so the romaine stays crisp. Refrigerate leftover beef and toppings separately in airtight containers for up to 3 days; reheat beef in a skillet over medium heat until hot. Freezing is not recommended for the assembled bowls, but the cooked beef keeps in the freezer up to 2 months. If you want a dairy-reduced option, use a smaller amount of cheddar or swap for a low-lactose cheese alternative while keeping the burger sauce.
