Ingredients

Apple filling and crust
  • 4 large apples Peeled and sliced.
  • 0.5 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 0.25 tsp nutmeg
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 1 cup graham cracker crumbs
  • 1 vanilla ice cream For serving.
  • 4 sheets heavy-duty aluminum foil

Equipment

  • 1 sheet pan

Method

Build the packets
  1. Divide the apple slices among the 4 sheets of aluminum foil.
  2. Sprinkle each packet with brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg, then top with 1 tablespoon butter.
  3. Sprinkle the graham cracker crumbs over the apples.
  4. Fold the foil into sealed packets so the filling stays inside.
Campfire cook and serve
  1. Place the packets on the campfire grate over medium heat for 12-15 minutes, until the apples are tender.
  2. Let the packets cool for 5 minutes.
  3. Open the packets carefully and serve with vanilla ice cream.

Notes

Pro tip: keep the foil seals tight so the apple juices caramelize instead of leaking. Refrigerate leftovers in a covered container up to 3 days; reheat in a foil packet on a grill or in an oven until warmed through. Freezing is not recommended because the graham crumbs soften too much. For a dairy-free swap, use plant-based butter and dairy-free ice cream.
