Build the packets
- Divide the apple slices among the 4 sheets of aluminum foil.
- Sprinkle each packet with brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg, then top with 1 tablespoon butter.
- Sprinkle the graham cracker crumbs over the apples.
- Fold the foil into sealed packets so the filling stays inside.
Campfire cook and serve
- Place the packets on the campfire grate over medium heat for 12-15 minutes, until the apples are tender.
- Let the packets cool for 5 minutes.
- Open the packets carefully and serve with vanilla ice cream.
Notes
Pro tip: keep the foil seals tight so the apple juices caramelize instead of leaking. Refrigerate leftovers in a covered container up to 3 days; reheat in a foil packet on a grill or in an oven until warmed through. Freezing is not recommended because the graham crumbs soften too much. For a dairy-free swap, use plant-based butter and dairy-free ice cream.
